  • Topaz dragon leading one of the cults
    • While generally not malicious, topaz dragons embody decay. They view destruction as a natural means of clearing the way for new creation and growth, much as a forest fire clears dead wood, replenishes the soil, and allows the forest to regrow even healthier than before. To this end, topaz dragons use their power to reduce crumbling structures and diseased plants to dust, clearing the way for new growth and construction.
  • Museum of Witchcraft sideplot

Overarching:

  • Tharizdun being one of the primordials, imprisoned by the primordial of fire long ago
    • Tharizdun created the abyss, which is still so powerful that the fire primordial needed to create another plane entirely to fight back the abyss.
  • The PoF died, and therefore, “breaking the first seal” to unlock Tharizdun
    • Now the cult wants to break these seals to free Tharizdun and free him, or at least an avatar of him, or his primordial form
  • When freed, he has some form like the hound thing in loki
  • He can’t be hurt in this form, but asmodeus can hook you up with something that constrains him to a physical form that can be hurt
    • The way this works is that whatever device is given to them, they must stab it into someone willing, speak a ritual, and then they will become a vessel for tharizduns form.
  • Cults will start being more active, as his return is coming
    • After the seal appears, the

    • If held in here for more than 3 days

Session 3 branching paths

  • Fix their curse
    • Church
    • Cursed forest
      • Once a lush forest, home to three beautiful dryads, now corrupted.
      • It’s said that the heart of the corruption holds the cure to any disease
      • A Gulthias tree was a plant infused with supernatural evil, capable of spreading corruption to nearby plant life and generating malevolent creatures known as blights. A Gulthias tree could originate wherever a plant was contaminated by an evil force or sentience.

A Gulthias tree left unchecked could infect the surrounding forest and cause blights to emerge from nearby corrupted plant life. The tree and its associated blights could turn a lush forest into a toxic, bramble-filled wasteland, growing with supernatural speed to overwhelm nearby roadways and settlements.

      • Long ago, a trio of Eladrin warlock sisters sought to bind a powerful archfey of the Unseelie Court to their service. The trio was Elasid (the eldest and the vain one), Yewen (the middle and the physically weakest), and Tarosa (the youngest and the evilest, who had suggested the idea). The archfey laughed at their feeble attempt, and gave a “gift” to each of them: to Elasid, it granted to power of long life, as she was transformed into a hideous and insane undead monstrosity. To Yewen, it granted the power to withstand anything, by turning her into a tree. And to Tarosa, it granted her the ultimate evil, by having her watch her sisters change before her eyes and taking away her ability to see. With that, the archfey disappeared. Tarosa was forced to kill her sister, and buried the body at the foot of Yewen.
      • The two former beings of Elasid and Yewen merged and formed a Gulthias tree, and the ground around the tree began to grow massive corpse flowers, with Blights and Shambling Mounds and Corrupted Treants roaming farther and farther as the corruption spread.
      • The Darkwoods are home to
        • Blights
          • Either 1 Rot Blight or others
        • Quicklings
        • Grinning Cat
  • Black clover swords
    • Khalia will go to Mardahn. From here she controls the cultists and what they do, including hunting CC
    • Selwyn stays in Isandor
      • He has one of the gems of tharizdun under the city.
        • “Tharizdun’s clerics cannot draw power from him unless they are in contact with an artifact such as these.”
    • Harman is sent north of central mountain chain to fight the remaining stormwatch army, especially needed when liberty pulls back
    • Meiavor goes to Tallon to oversee their surrender, and join the governing of the city. He scryes on the party, and sends info to Selwyn. He’s religious, and the city will be undergoing forced sermons and specific attire etc
    • Daephne goes to Galefore to govern them
      • She really just poses as the leader, but has put other cultists to do her job, and is just studying in her little tower.
  • Eryx
    • Giorge Forsworn and Mask went there, and immediately caused a ruckus by just killing a couple acolytes, trying to find out more about the puzzle box. Finally, the head of the church gave in and told them about Thalia. Now, they’ve replaced the rest of the people in the church (3) with doppelgangers, and forced the person who forced sydney

Mardahn

  • Khalia has acquired the Hidden Lord’s Ring
    • It’s a sentient ring of invisibility, with a pit fiend inside of it.
    • It was stolen from the Chalyer family
      • The Chalyers are a powerful noble house with a well established name
      • They have ties to many other noble families, including ones in Myridon
      • They keep a lot of secrets and stuff from far off places
      • One of these, the ring, was stolen recently from their crypts. Kaddrus, a cambion, was sent to help retrieve it.
  • Encounters
    • Ominous, disembodied whispers reach the party’s ears. The whispers lead to Chalyer House.
    • The party sees a group of cultists in the street, harassing a poor family, threatening to take their child if they don’t give them all their money.
  • In basement
    • Roll 1d8 for every room
      • on 8, khalia appears and starts talking

The Hidden Lord/Azgaroth

  • Azgaroth
  • Gargauth ish
  • He wants to get out, and has two ideas - either getting to hell, or through a powerful enough celestial, which could be Mother.
  • If Mother frees him, the Hidden Lord will “switch places” with her, imprisoning her in the armor, while he is free
  • The Hidden Lord - Seraphiel: Once a figure of immense power and influence, The Hidden Lord was an ambitious Celestifel, his sights set on ascending to godhood. With an almost demigod-like following, his influence was vast and far-reaching, his name whispered in reverence and fear across countless realms. His charisma was such that he could sway the hearts and minds of mortals and immortals alike, amassing an army of followers willing to lay down their lives for his cause.
  • However, his unbridled ambition and ruthless quest for power alarmed the celestial beings. They foresaw the calamity that could befall the cosmos if The Hidden Lord was allowed to ascend to true godhood. To prevent this, they conspired to imprison him, using a relic of immense power known as the Aegis of Eternity, a divine artifact capable of binding even the mightiest entities.
  • In an epic confrontation, the celestials managed to trap The Hidden Lord within a set of ancient scale mail armor, the Aegis of Eternity’s power sealing him within. The armor, inscribed with celestial runes, became his prison, limiting his once vast influence and power to mere whispers seeping from the confines of his metallic prison.
  • As a young celestifel, Azgaroth was taken in under the wings of Mother. She trained him, and tried to bring him to her level of power. But higher beings in the upper planes sensed his fiendish side was too strong, and so they cast him out.
    • Mother did nothing to stop this, even if she believed that Azgaroth was good. He hated her for this. Guilt still racks her to this day.
  • On the material plane, Azgaroth decided to get a following, starting what seemed like a cult almost to strike back against the upper planes, but was stopped before his plan could come to pass.
  • Celestials lie to him and make a deal with some fiends to imprison him, because neither of them wanted a halfblood in power. Thing is, these were fiends of Bel
  • For centuries now, Azgaroth has been trapped in this prison, waiting and longing for the day he is released. Now with Arani, he has that chance.
  • When he is released, he will go to Avernus, and try to convince Zariel to turn her army, at least parts of it, against mount celestia.

The Stonewardens

  • The Stonewardens is an organization, every now and again working in tandem with the Order of Ambers. Their mission or purpose is to keep this plane safe from extraplanar threats, be it fiends, elementals, evil celestials or the likes.
  • The Stonewardens were created when Moardra, the Stone Giant who used to lead them, was touched by visions from the spirits of the mountains themselves. And so he left the Realm of the Giants, seeking out the mountains he heard spirits from, and formed the Stonewardens, with the Goliaths living there, to become the guardians of the harmony between the natural world and the elemental forces dwelling within the mountains.
  • Them hunting these extraplanar creatures leads to them sometimes working with the Order of Ambers. However, unlike the typical hunters, the Stonewardens instead petrify their targets. This allows them to preserve and neutralize the threats, rendering them unable to wreak havoc. It also allows them to be, in the eyes of the Stonewardens, silent guardians rather than a forgotten threat.
  • 9 years ago, Ephraim Victor, a Goliath blood hunter, decided he wanted to usurp Castien as the leader, and realized he could do this with the help of the Stonewardens. So he convinced the Stonewardens of a celestial threat infiltrating the Order of Ambers. When the Stonewardens and Moardra showed up, they of course attacked the Seraphs
  • In the confusion of the attack, Ephraim overpowered Moardra, and enslaved him with a rune. With Moardra under his command, he took over both the Stonewardens and the Order of Ambers

Knights of the Scale

  • Knights of the Scale are on the surface a secret society of merchants and nobles who were interested in the mercantile and civic matters of their respective lands
  • In reality, they are an organization made by the celestials who originally imprisoned the Hidden Lord in the Scale Mail. Their task is guarding the armor. To help, they employ fiends, who are less likely to be influenced by the armor.

Seals

  • Killing the Primordial of Fire is the first seal
  • One is killing the daughter of Garcius
    • This would be an entire questline of finding her, and protecting her
    • Yucca is also protecting the girl, which would be after the fight with Adren that left him wounded
    • She would tell “horror stories” of the elf coming after the people related to Garcius. pcs would know who it is obviously
    • the conclusion to this quest would be fighting Adren. Either this ends in Adren killing the 2, or Adren dying.

Darkvein:

  • Darkvein as a whole came around after The Merging, around the same time when the Chains of Tharizdun became weaker.
  • It comes from his power, maddening people, “preparing” for his return - it specifically more easily targets people with Dragonmarks, as they are the ones with the counterparts to his Shadowmarks
  • The cure to Darkvein is then drinking the blood of one of the other primordials.
    • This is not an easy task, as the areas around the primordials are hazardous
      • See the seas where the water primordial died, and the warped creatures in A’Odon’s realm
    • There’s then also the task of actually extracting the blood, and surviving actually drinking it and the side effects that come with it.
    • Luna can cure darkvein, because she is infused with the power of the fire primordial. When eclipse killed the primordial, it absorbed some of its essence, and when garcius got eclipse, he infused some of the essence into Luna. It twisted her into a tiefling, but also gave her the curing powers of the blood of primordials.
    • He infused Luna as a power source mostly for himself, where he’d “abuse” the corrupted blood to boost his own health
    • Before, Luna was just a regular humanoid - aasimar/tiefling or smth, but garcius wanted to make Luna something more as Well, so made her a corrupted version of herself

    • Ephraim Victor was one of the members of the group that mainly opposed the Seraphs being there. He is a goliath, and secretly a part of the Stonewardens
    • Nowadays, he leads the Order of Ashes
      • The main opposer was called Verel Chan, but wasn’t the guy who actually staged the mutiny
      • Ephraim really only used the guise of the Stonewardens getting the celestials so he could get control of both the Stonewardens and the Order of Ambers. However, as most got away, he still wanted to try and hunt them down, so they don’t come back for revenge. He had really forgotten most about them, but a goliath stumbled across Rehael, and caught him recently.
    • The leader of the blood hunters was called Castien Themaris, elf. He was forced to leave when Ephraim forced his way to being the leader, and now is just a drunk, who throws himself at dangerous guild things, hoping to just die.
    • Esme
      • Went to the same adventuring school as Cain, where they met. Still wanted to help out, and this was a way to do so.

Thalia:

  • Infernal Puzzle Box
    • Dad made a deal for power, but it came at the cost of Thalia’s soul, taken after she eventually dies.
    • Deal says that Michealis would be granted power to fight the goblin raiders with. Once they were all dead, the deal would be nullified, and Thalia’s soul be her own.
    • Why is this important to the Tharizdun cultists?
      • One of the seals that can be broken is that they need t0 get the soul of a good aligned cleric through a deal, and it’s easy to do so when the target doesn’t realize her soul is on the line.
  • Giorge Forsworn and Mask are both members of Michealis’ former adventuring party.
  • Agnese went to Gardmore Abbey hihi
  • Rite of Excommunication
    • Upon failure to complete a task, or upon evidence of cowardice or failure to follow Helm’s precepts, the highest ranking disciple of Helm available would excommunicate the offender with these words:
    • “You have been tried by fair authority and found wanting. You have betrayed your trust. When the time came to watch, you were blind. When the time came to stand, you were kneeling. When the time came to protect the poor, injured, and young, you sacrificed them. You fled in craven cowardice. You fought in ignorance and pride. Your weapons were dulled when the challenge came, and the blood spilled is on your head. Your name was called, and you did not answer. You are not pure. You are not loyal. You are no protector. You are dead to the children of Helm. Now go and die to all others.”

Aelthar

Alexei

  • “He said our reputations are tied together. My reputation is not tied to you guys”
    • The beastial enclave will definitely mention the fox’s new reputation as a goodie two shoes turned same old same.
  • The wolf(?) calls her dustborn
  • Khada
    • Khada was once “just” an assassin, who rose to become infamous after his spree of murders ranging from eastern Enya to the southern Kanmaeris Principality. In the beginning of his spree, reports described him as a wood elf. His calling card became a rose, which he always had on his arrows he used to kill his victims. He succeeded in killing a lot of important figures in his areas of “hunting”, but was finally killed by being lured into a trap, where he thought his target would be, but he was instead confronted by hired adventurers who took him down.
    • His killing spree was thought to be ended here, but less than a year later, reports of murders started appearing again, with the same signature Khada had used before - a rose, but only now, it seemed to sprout from the small holes in his victims now, coming from his new weapon - a firearm. New reports of him now said he had grown ashen skin, new armor, decorated with raven feathers, and a mask, having been revived by the then god of death Myrkul as his aspect.
    • 124 years ago, after learning of two wood elves selling information on elven troop movements to criminals known as the bestial enclave, the informants became his targets instead of the usual human invaders. However, they were killed in custody, and assuming it was the bestial enclave, he decided to target them instead. He killed a few, but was stopped by the Boar and Bluejay. As his patron god had just been usurped by the Raven Queen, this death was for good.
    • Recently, the Merging shook whatever hold the Raven Queen placed on Myrkul, allowing “cracks” into the demiplane he was trapped in. Slowly but surely, these grew larger, until recently, when Myrkul had enough power to revive his old aspect, who is now out collecting souls for Myrkul’s phylactery, helping him regain power to maybe overthrow the raven queen once more. The souls Khada has decided to start with are the ones of those who killed him way back.

NPC’s

Names

  • Butcher of the Rebellion

Maxi

  • The Puzzlebox/Contract
    • Maxi’s mom had some business, probably shady, going on. She had ideas for how to expand her options, 0ne of them being that Maxi be made target of a devil deal.
      • So Maxi’s own mom signed off Maxi’s soul in exchange for Maxi then becoming MM’s helper, getting knowledge of teleportation circles all over the (now Fallen) Empire.
        • The deal is also what made her a Runechild, as runes were burned into her.
      • The deal included Maxi not being able to disobey her mom
      • With the deal, Mir was assigned to Maxi as a guardian, and the two grew close over the time working with the mom, and setting up more teleportation circles
      • After years of abuse from her mother, Mir, seeing himself as Maxi’s guardian now, snapped, and with “borrowed” power from Maxi, turned into a large version of himself and killed the mom.
      • Maxi was now free from the mom’s influence, and she and Mir fled. The organization chased them, so over time, Maxi and Mir were forced to take down the organization, with the knowledge they had of the whereabouts.
      • With Maxi’s mom dead, the contract was technically null, but Mir and Maxi made their own continuation of it, meaning that Maxi kept her power and Mir, but she vowed to use it for good.

  • The grounds around the fort are littered with thousands of gravestones, with a giant’s skull in the middle of the field of graves, with an altar-like structure in front. This is the skull of Gautarr

    • as he finishes his speech, he brings out his sword and stabs thavis. same time as this, khalia teleports behind danance’s chair and slices her throat.
