Lavender

Lavender

The portal closed behind her as she stepped out of it and she found herself in her home. As she scanned over her home she saw that there had been no disturbance which came as no surprise. She lived far away from any settlement in the feywild and they had learnt to not approach her part of the forest through their own trial and error.

There had of course been exceptions she thought as she cast a spell. The image of lavender appeared and she seemed to be experimenting with blood. At least she chose an interesting path to study, she thought. The vision faded from her mind and she walked to her study.

The room was filled with tomes both ancient and new, some she had even written herself. Acquiring knowledge had always seemed like the best activity to pass the times and in some cases had led to her own discoveries.

She pressed her hand on the wall and it parted showing her most recent experiment. The man was bound by green necrotic energy on his hands and legs and was leaning forwards from the wall. She walked closer and saw that his back was racked with injuries and his mouth made the motion as if he was screaming. She had used a silence spell over this area after only a few minutes of listening to his screams of agony. She checked the restraints and then moved to check the vials. The vial holding the healing liquid she had concocted for this was nearly empty so she quickly topped it off and watched the wounds on the man’s back heal and disappear.

Seeing his screaming stop she dropped the silence spell and looked into his frantic and desperate eyes. She placed her hand on his cheek and made an image appear in front of his face. The image showed a fairy tending to a garden with a few bees buzzing around helping her efforts. The man’s face softened as he watched the image. She simply waited as he calmed down, and then looked at the image. The fairy grabbed her chest seemingly in pain and fell to the ground writhing. The man’s face turned to one of terror as another fairy came into view and tried to help the one on the ground.

The matron turned to the man and said “you have to remember sweetie, your heart beats for two and you do want your daughter to live, no?” The father let the panic fade and seemed resigned as he nodded. The matron smiled as her hand glowed and the poison from the vials began to flow into his body once more. The screams started anew as adrenaline flooded his body causing his heart to beat rapidly.

The fairy on the ground stopped writhing in pain and hugged the other. As the father watched through the pain a tear fell from his cheek.
