Description / Appearance

Rydel is a young half-elf, with an athletic build. He’s a bit shorter than the average height, however, stronger than the average due to helping his uncle on the farm, or in his smith. His hair is silver, and his skin tanned. Across his arm and shoulder are various crude tattoos, some just patterns, while other bearing draconic resemblance. Down his back runs his dragonmark - a symbol covering his spine, made to resemble the spine of a dragon, and to the trained eye, a copper one specifically.

He carries around a mask forged of copper, with draconic imagery upon it. Forged by his uncle, and bearing the abbreviation AC - Alwyn Caldwell. Formerly, he also carried two scimitars and a glaive, all forged by his uncle, but he has since switched them out for a magical glaive, its blade resembling a dragon’s head.

Personality Traits

Rydel tries as much as possible to be good person as he can. He wants to make his uncle proud of him.

He is very protective of his friends, and is generally a quiet type of person. In many ways, he is probably the counterpart to Kani.

Since the fight at the Goblin fort near Haverton, his mood and attitude had been slowly reclining, and he hit an especially dark period immediatly after Kani died. He also acted recklessly, but after being brought back, he learned that was due to darkvein. He now is on an upwards slope, in a big part due to support from Canela, and a want to be strong for the group.

Background

Rydel came from the small village of Llyne in the Unclaimed Lands, where he was raised by his uncle, Alwyn. Recently before starting his adventure, his uncle passed away, and Rydel came into possession of a dragon egg. He traveled west from Llyne, where he and Syphax, his dragon, ended up captured by pirates.

He has later revealed that he had befriended an adult Copper Dragon near his village, which is where he had his first Dragon Companion. Nirlilah, as her name was, was Syphax’ mother.

He also revealed that the reason he left Llyne was that The Stalkers, following a Red Shadow Dragon, had killed Nirlilah and Alwyn, his uncle.

Recently, a lot of his family history, which was previously unknown to him, has been revealed. He has a brother, Aurelius, and through their relation with Varo, they are technically princes in Setmerun - their father, Varo, being cousin to Emperor Aranian.

Syphax	Companion/”Brother”	Syphax has been by Rydel’s side ever since he left Llyne those years ago at this point. Through Syphax, he has a direct connection to his uncle and his dragon, and he has a brother.Rydel loves Syphax beyond anything in this world, and their bond is very special and dear to Rydel. He couldn’t imagine facing any of what he has without Syphax.
Alwyn Caldwell	Uncle/Father Figure	While Rydel now knows that Alwyn wasn’t his real father, he was raised to be believe this and still regards Alwyn as his father. Alwyn taught Rydel most of the basics in life, along with Rydel inheriting his morals from Alwyn.Recently, Rydel learnt that Alwyn was in fact a dragon rider of Setmerun, and it was him who took Rydel away from Setmerun when he was just a child. This newfound knowledge, even if it was kept hidden from him, only makes Rydel respect Alwyn that much more than he already did.
Aurelius Caldwell	(Half) Brother	Rydel only recently found out that he had a brother, being Aurelius, but that doesn’t make him love him any less.The two of them have bonded much already, and Rydel respects how Aurelius has turned out, even with all the hardships he has faced. In classic big brother fashion, he would do anything to keep Aurelius safe.
Kani	Significant other	Rydel had considered Cha’askani’s death partly his fault, seeing as the Stalker that killed her was following him. Learning that she was brought back was one of the best moments of his adventuring career, and her new self was, in his opinion, an improval.Recently, the relationship with Kani blossomed into love, as he fell for Kani in her much more compassionate and joyful form. Recently, memories of her old self was granted back to her, along with the anger, but Rydel trusts Kani to stay her good self, and will help her however he can. Even if it means killing someone she accepted a deal to kill.
Alistair	Close Friend	Through all their adventures, Alistair has always been a helping hand, a friend, an ear to talk to, someone to lean on when it was needed, and so much more. Alistair had always been a good friend to Rydel, and they’ve had several conversations and moments which all have meant a ton to Rydel. There are few friends he trusts as much to have his back as Alistair.
Petir	Friend/Mentor	While they haven’t known each other for an extended amount of time, Rydel looks up to Petir very much. With what he has seen so far, Petir seems to be the type of person Rydel strives to be down the line.Petir also recently entrusted Rydel with a great blessing, one Rydel will do his utmost to live up to.
Nirlilah	Former Dragon Companion	Nirlilah was an adult Copper Dragon, the one who taught him to be a dragon rider when he found her in the cave. He is forever grateful for her taking him in like she did, and is adament on keeping her spirit alive through Syphax.He also recently learnt that she was previously Alwyn’s dragon companion, which makes him respect both her and Alwyn that much more.

The Copper Phoenix	Member	The Copper Phoenix is the extended group that formed from the Copper Covenant and Twin Phoenix. Rydel is a member, and the group together has already been through a lot together. Pretty much all members are people he respects and would put down his life for.
The Alcarindes	Family Member	Rydel recently got to meet his extended family in the form of the Alcarindes of Setmerun. While outwardly, they all seem welcoming and warm, Rydel is having a hard time fully embracing them, as he knows of the type of empire they run.He also learnt that Varo let Alwyn take Rydel away from Setmerun, and that Varo sent Aurelius away too. While he doesn’t know much about Varo’s morals yet, the fact that Alwyn felt the best thing to do was run away means that Rydel, for the time being, remains skeptical of them.
The Dragon Elves	Unknown	Rydel doesn’t know too much about it yet, but he knows he was granted a blessing of sorts by Petir, one which connects him to the dragon elves, and he will do what he can to honor this.
